29 December 2010

Mitzi understands more English than even I had given her credit for and that is an incredible amount of credit!

I've just been downstairs to talk to Steven and he asked me to see if Mitzi wanted to go out, no problem there! Here is what happened:

Me: "hello Mitz"
Mitzi looks up at me
Me: "does my favourite little pup want to go out?"
Mitzi wags her tail and bounces to the kitchen door
Me: "you're gonna have to move your little bum to let me through, you know!"
Mitzi waddles into the kitchen
Me: "thank you sweetiepie!" I open the back door
Mitzi goes to her usual look-out post, looks around and sniffs the air like she usually does
Me: "I know it's wet out there and you don't like your little paws being wet but I haven't got any shoes on and the cold is going right through me so pretty please hurry up and decide before I get chillblaines on my poor feet?"
Mitzi looks up at me and gingerly goes out, walks all of about 5 steps and squats down for a wee
Me: "well aren't you just the best dog in the world!"
Mitzi finishes her wee and goes to sniff around the bin at the back wall
Me: "you coming in then girlie?"
Mitzi squats down for a poo
Me: "ah right, I see!"
Mitzi finishes her poo and comes running in so I close the door and give her half a dog biscuit as a reward
I was talking to her as if she understood every word and she *did* understand most of them!

Now we just need to encourage her to talk! lol

26 December 2010

Today it was just the 2 of us for about 10 hours and my favourite little puppy was brilliant yet again! She spent most of the time curled up fast asleep on my thighs and asked to go out several times but only wee'd twice the whole time... Steven is definitely her pack leader as she suddenly woke up when she heard his car go down the road and was wide awake with her little tail wagging by the time he got in the door and she has been his shadow ever since!

We've rehomed an amazing little girl and I'm so glad she is ours!

25 December 2010

Our little girl was incredible today! For the very first time since we've had her we left her alone in the house for 3.5 hours and Steven forgot to put the stairgate up so Mitzi had the full run of the house without supervision and with plenty of temptation and little old me spent the whole time being paranoid about her!

I know it may not sound like much but this is a major achievement in my eyes... she has been through so much negativity in her 18 months of life and went through so much rejection while she was at the 2 Dogs Trust re-homing centres (6 months in Southampton and 3 months at Evesham) because of her fur/skin problems but she's an amazing little girl and she's ours now and there ain't anyone going to take her off us!

I hope she realises that we aren't about to desert her as she has got a tight hold of our hearts now!

I'm so proud of our little girl now... she's a perfect pup in my eyes!

20 December 2010

This morning I let our little Westie out the back like I do every morning and she was very good... she wee'd and poo'd then she turned around, sniffed her freshly done poo and was about to eat it! Ewwwww! I called "no" to her and she was very good and came back in without eating her poo.

We changed the brand of her food last night so could that have been why she almost ate her poo? She scoffed the whole bowlful of food in a couple of minutes so I think she approves of it but I'm wondering if the new smell tempted her this morning? Am I being paranoid?

19 December 2010

I sent this through the Westie group I'm with and wanted to share it with you all too!

Hello everyone

I realise I send a lot of "Mitzi is great" messages through and don't reply to others very often but this is spectacular even for our little girl and has done wonders for my confidence in leaving her in the house alone for a couple of hours on Christmas Day!

Steven's brother, Andrew, sent him a text message in the early hours asking Steven to take him home as the buses had stopped running so Steven told Mitzi to stay on the sofa while Steven took Andrew home and apparently our wonderful little Westie didn't move a muscle until Steven got home!

We are going up to Steven's parents on Christmas Day and they have asked us to leave Mitzi here while we eat so we were going to put Mitzi in the kitchen with her bed, food, water and a couple of toys and the back door open just in case she needed to go out while we were eating and I was feeling really guilty and cruel about leaving her alone for those 2 hours but now that we know she is OK alone I'm just going to put the stair gate up so that she doesn't come up here but other than that she'll have the whole of the downstairs to herself for a couple of hours and loads of toys to play with for those 2 hours so hopefully she'll be OK!

I'm just so proud of her and had to share it with you all!

18 December 2010

We've got a wonderful little dog! Steven has just told me that he put his lunch (bacon sandwiches) on the sofa beside him while he did some urgent updating about the snow at the railway and our little girl was pacing up and down on the floor waiting for her crusts... I don't know about any other dogs out there but most dogs would have used the opportunity to steal and eat the sandwiches but not our little Mitzi! She didn't even go over for a sniff of them, she just waited for the crusts like she usually does! Mitzi is an amazing little girl and I'm so glad she owns us!

17 December 2010

We've just had the shopping delivered and yet again Mitzi was a wonderful dog!

Apparently when the shopping van came down the street, Mitzi jumped off the sofa and shot to the door so Steven said "back you go Mitz" and she backed up the hall until Steven was out of the living room and into the hall, then Steven said "up onto the sofa you go" and she jumped up and laid down then he said "you stay there" and she didn't move a muscle until I got down there even though the door was wide open!

We haven't taught her any of those things so I'm thinking the Dogs Trust trained her to be so good and obedient as the only words we've trained her with are "OK" to release her from a previous command and "kissy kissy" when we want a kiss!

I'm glad she was rejected before we got to Evesham back in July... she rescued me the first day we went there! She's an amazing little girl and she is all ours now and Im so glad we have her! Thank you to all the people who didn't want her because of her lack of fur... you don't know what a special girl you didn't want!

I'm sitting here with a huge smile on my face right now and the pride I have in my heart is threatening to explode through my chest!

Not only but also, another bag of food for our little girl was delivered with the shopping... it's a different brand name to the one we've been feeding her since we re-homed her so I hope she likes it! The bag is about twice the size of the ones we've been feeding her but it was just over half the price of the food she's been getting for the last few months! The food that came today was 4.73 and the food she's previously been getting costs about 8!

15 December 2010

Just the one video of our little girl today! She's asleep of course! lol

11 December 2010

Weve literally just got back from seeing my mum and Mitzi did me proud today for 7 major reasons and 3 minor reasons... I've got a terrible memory so I'll just list the 10 reasons so that I remember them all then talk about them each below that... I'm just so excited and proud of our little Westie!

1 and 2) she did 2 major wee's even by her standards and they were both in the dark so her poor eyeballs must have been floating each time
3) she didn't need to stop the whole way home
4 to 7) she kissed me in a big way while the car was moving and it was dark
8) she didnt wee in my mum's house at all today
9) she kissed me a little bit in the car
10) as soon as we got home, Steven let her out the back and she poo'd. I reckon she'd been holding it in for 5 or 6 hours bless her

OK, so the minor ones (numbers 3, 8 and 9) first:

3) it takes about an hour to get to my mum's house and we had to stop once on the way to let her wee but she didn't need to stop at all on the way back! I dont know if she was tired out from being away from home all day or if she didn't realise how long she'd been in the car or if she had totally emptied her little bladder or what but we didn't stop at all on the way home!

8) the first time we went over to my mum's house she wee'd in the house because I didn't read her signals in time but not today! Our little Westie just weed outside which in itself is something to be proud of!

9) nothing major in itself but I didnt do anything to get the kiss off her... she just decided to kiss me and I wasn't going to stop her! lol

Now the major ones:

1 and 2) I let our little girl out every 45 minutes today but she just sniffed the air then came back in even though it was light outside and it wasn't raining. It wasn't until it was dark that she decided she couldn't hold it any longer... usually our little girl holds it in until it's light and dry but not this time! Usually her weeing sessions are major ones anyway, that last for at least 10 seconds and she only goes out every 4 hours or so (even though I encourage her to go out more often) when she is at home but the first major wee today lasted about 15 or 20 seconds so her little eyeballs must have been floating! I wrongly thought that she must have totally emptied her bladder then but I was wrong because a couple of hours later we decided it was time to come home and our little girl stopped in the middle of the drive for a good 30 seconds and emptied her bladder again!

4 to 7) I dont usually get kissed in the car, my thighs are just steps up to the open window but today our little girl decided I needed to be kissed not once or twice, but 4 times! They weren't little kisses either... she had me pinned to the seat with one front paw on each shoulder and each back paw on my thighs then the kissing started and didn't stop until our little girl was breathless each time! lol

10) Our little girl had been needing a poo for most of today and she had plenty of opportunities to go but it wasn't until we got back home that she let it all out! We got to my mum's house at about 10.30am and left at 6pm and she'd been doing her "let me out, I need a poo" messages from about lunchtime but not doing anything until we got home at about 7.15pm then she went outside and did what she needed to do straight away... it's the same with her walks, I make sure she has plenty of opportunities to wee and poo but it's not until she is home that she does anything! She's got amazing control of her bladder and bowel considering she is only 18 months old!

I know I keep on saying it but I really truly do mean it... we've rehomed an amazing little girl!

8 December 2010

Our little girl has been climbing all over me today! lol When she wasn't climbing on me or sitting on me, she was chasing cats in her sleep and when she wasn't doing that she was hogging the heat again! lol

She definitely doesn't like the cold weather we are having atm - I opened the back door for her 4 or 5 times this morning and she stayed inside until her eyeballs were floating then she went out did a little wee (by her standards) then ran in as quickly as she could bless her!

6 December 2010

Steven is at work all this week in a meeting so Mitzi has to put up with me all the time until Friday afternoon! She's going to be sick of the sight of me by the weekend! lol

I'm not happy with either of these photo's... my hand was shaking for some reason!

2 December 2010

Another Thursday so another few photo's and video's! Steven has got a course at work all next week so there will either be loads of photo's and video's next week if he doesn't get home too late or there won't be any as I'll have gone straight to bed if he gets home late!

Also, I had a huge panic today - I thought our little girl had escaped somehow (there's a 12 foot high wall around 3 sides and a 2 storey house on the 4th side and the front door was firmly closed) so spent an anxious 15 minutes calling her and rattling the dog biscuit box but I couldn't find her until she mysteriously appeared in the back yard... I was so relieved I almost cried!

29 November 2010

Yet another cutie moment last night! I was moving in to kiss Steven goodnight like I do every night and Mitzi decided to butt in on the tender moment and put her little head between us so that she got a kiss on each side of her head and the humans got a mouthful of fur! Our little girl is too intelligent for her own good! lol She knows our nightly routine now so I'm guessing we'll be getting a mouth full of fur more often from now on! Bless her little cotton socks! :-)

26 November 2010

Steven has just told me about what our little girl did earlier when I gave her a cooked pig's ear and I just have to share it with you all!

Mitzi asked to go out with her pigs ear in her mouth and she padded around the back yard for a little while looking for somewhere to bury it, she then remembered the empty (other than a carrot that she buried soon after we gave it to her a few weeks ago) pot we've got at the back of the yard and took it over to it, balanced on her back legs, dropped the ear in the pot and used her little nose to push leaves over it.

She wasn't satisfied with the amount of leaves there were in the pot so she got back down on all 4 paws again and proceeded to find as many leaves around the yard as she could, pushed them all over to the side of the pot with her little black nose then proceeded to use her nose to push every single leaf she'd gathered up the side of the pot and over the side of it!

I wish Steven had called me when she was doing it so that I could have taken a video of her to share with you all! She's an amazing little dog and I'm glad she owns us!

25 November 2010

Steven went to work again today so I took a couple of photos and a couple of video's of "the boss" this morning. She tried to get me off the sofa for most of the day... she wanted the whole sofa to herself so I had about a quarter to sit on and our little girl took up the rest of it and tried to push me off if I tried to sit back! Tsk! :-)

The rest of Mitzi's Christmas pressies turned up today and she is a very spoilt little girl but she is so worth it! I need to get her a much bigger Christmas stocking though as there is no way all her gifts will fit in the one I've already got for her! lol

See what I mean about wanting most of the sofa to herself? lol

19 November 2010

Steven accidently dropped his tea on the living room floor last night and yet again our little girl amazed us! She didn't even sniff at the dropped food let alone try to eat any of it! Most dogs would have taken the opportunity and eaten the food without a second thought, but not our Mitzi... she waited for Steven to pick up most of the food and he had to encourage her to eat the few remaining chips that were left on the floor! We agreed that all the dogs he had previously and my previous dog (they are all at Rainbow Bridge now) would have been eating it straight away! Not our little girl though!

As if that wasn't enough, she also held on to her bowel until Steven needed to go himself at about 4am this morning and our little girl waited until he had opened the door to let her out while he was in the bathroom!

Mitzi is a truly incredible dog and I'm so glad she chose us back in July!

I'm thinking that we should feed our little girl at 4.30pm instead of 6.30pm as of now. I put her food down for her at about 4pm yesterday and at 4.45pm today and both days she has eaten everything in one go instead of eating a few bits here and there throughout the day and night like she had been when I put her food down at 6.30pm - I think she ate yesterday and today because she was genuinely hungry so polished the food off altogether straight away but had gone through hungry and out the other side when she was being fed at 6.30pm which is why it took her 20 hours to eat it instead of the couple of minutes it's taken her yesterday and today! I just want Mitzi to be happy so if she prefers eating a couple of hours earlier then that's what I'll do :-)

18 November 2010

Our little girl is a telly addict! lol I was watching a TV programme while Steven was at work and a turkey started schreeching so Mitzi's ears pricked, she jumped off the sofa, bounced over to the TV and started trying to find the noise! I didn't want to upset our little girl so I muted the sound but Mitzi was still trying to find where the noise was coming from even though there wasn't any sound coming out of the TV!

She's been a camera hog all day today and I've got 6 photo's to show you now!

17 November 2010

Our little girl has just done me proud by going out and doing what she needed to do when it is both wet *and* dark!

She hasn't been any further outside than going to the doorstep, sniffing the air for a few seconds then coming in for about 40 hours so the poor girl must have been bursting bless her little heart!

I know it may not seem like much to be proud of, but this evening was the first time she has done that since we brought her home in July!

Mitzi is an amazing girl and I'm glad she chose us all those months ago!

15 November 2010

We've literally just got back from the vet and our little girl did us proud! I think she walks to heel with vets and vet nurses but not with us! lol

She's got to take it easy for another couple of days but she doesn't have to go back to the vet for anything else! Yay! Mitzi is a wonderful dog and I'm glad she's ours!

She may be an ace little dog but she is really heavy when she climbs onto my chest and lays down! lol

14 November 2010

Mitzi has, apparently, got a "stuck on tail" because she's got a small cream semi-circle of fur at the base of her tail! lol

She also likes licking the inside of a finished off tub of Muller Rice Pudding after Steven has eaten the rice! Bless her little heart!

13 November 2010

I know I keep saying it, but our little Mitzi is an amazing dog! She understands and obeys "enough" reliably and she also comes upstairs, when asked, without her lead on now too! OK, so the first time I did it I bribed her with a biscuit but the second time she did it alone! OK, so she saw me put a couple of biscuits in my skirt pocket but she came up here with just me saying "you comin' upstairs then my favourite little girl?" I'm so grateful to all those people who rejected her just because she didn't have a full body of fur!

I don't know if it was the Dogs Trust or Mitzi's previous owners that taught her all these words but whoever it was we are really grateful as she still surprises us with how much she understands and obeys!

I'm definitely getting our little girl a doggy stocking for Christmas... she so deserves to be spoilt as she's brought many happy smiles, lots of love and she's helped me to deal with the grief I've been feeling over my dad's death! I'm going to get the dogs at Evesham Dogs Trust a few bags of treats to share and the staff there a huge bunch of flowers for Christmas!

I've just sent this email out with a subject line of "I'm sat here in tears right now" and wanted to share it on here too :-)

Hello everyone

Our TV broke late last night so Steven called the people we are renting it from first thing this morning and they said they would call back when they knew what time the man with the replacement would be coming. The phone rang just as I was reaching to open the door to take our little Westie for her walk and they said that they would be here between 12 and 2pm so I took Mitzi for her walk and bribed her to come up here with me at about 11.45am and she did me proud!

Our little girl's ears pricked up when she heard me opening the biscuit box and her pleading eyes started as soon as I put 2 biscuits in my skirt pocket (bless her little cotton socks) and for the first time since we've had her (123 days of pure happiness) she came up here without her lead on! That was proud moment number 1. I gave her a biscuit as soon as shed come into the bedroom and waited for me to close the door (proud moment number 2) then I asked her to sit and she did it straight away (proud moment number 3) which earned her the other biscuit.

She was up here for 2 hours with me. She was asleep on my pillow for about an hour and a half then she suddenly woke up and shot down to the bottom of the bed, looking out of the window then I heard the door close so I knew it was the repair man but I wouldn't have known without our little girl's spectacular hearing! That was proud moment number 4.

Proud moment number 5 came when our little girl waited with the bedroom door wide open... she must have known the man was still here because she didn't even *try* and go out of the bedroom door even though it was open and I wasn't standing in her way but she didnt move a muscle until I closed the door when Steven sent me an MSN message to say that the man was still here.

When the man went, Mitzi heard the door close and her little head went to one side and Steven called up to say that it was OK for her to go downstairs now. I opened the door again and she shot out of the door this time (proud moment number 6) and got to the bottom of the stairs before I'd even left the bedroom! lol

Not only but also, our little girl likes apples but isn't so keen on citrus fruit... she quite willingly ate her way through most of Steven's apple but dropped the 2 segments of orange onto the floor and wouldn't touch them! We know that she likes apples and carrots now and she's never begged for human food, she just puts her pleading eyes on that neither of us can resist and that does it for us! lol

Mitzi is a wonderful little dog and I'm so grateful that the staff at Evesham Dogs Trust suggested her to us and that she had been rejected by so many others - she's ours now and she's brought months of pure happiness to both Steven and I already... I'm looking forward to the next decade with her!

She's having her stitches out (from being spayed) on Monday morning and the Dogs Trust Dogmobile will be at Asda in Gloucester on 2nd and 3rd December so we are going to show off our little girl to the Dogmobile staff and visitors then too!

Why am I in tears? They are tears of pure happiness that Mitzi is ours and she knows better than us when she isnt allowed to do something!

I don't suppose anyone knows of a recipe for a cake suitable for dogs do they? I want to make her a special cake for Christmas and I need to get some practise in first! lol

I'm going to really spoil Mitzi at Christmas... I'm planning on getting her a doggy stocking and advent calendar from the Dogs Trust as well as making her a cake! lol

She's a wonderful little girl and she deserves so much love... luckily we have both got plenty of love to shower her with!

11 November 2010 Steven went to work again this morning and I took a couple of video's of Mitzi T Doggington III this morning... hold on while I upload them to You Tube!

This one shows our little girl in her favourite position - asleep! lol

This photo shows Mitzi hogging the heat and not letting me have any! lol

This video shows Miss Doggington not wanting to look at the phone so that I could upload a non-asleep video but she just wasn't interested! :-(

8 November 2010 I saw the wound today... it wasn't dressed, just a couple of stitches and it's only about an inch long - there was me thinking it was going to take up most of her belly! They shaved a huge rectangle of fur though... a lot more than I was expecting but the vet knows what they are doing and I don't so we've just got to get used to a fur-less belly for a while!

She's also behaved brilliantly by taking notice of and obeying Steven saying "stay" to her again! The shopping has just been delivered and up to today I've been holding onto her collar or bringing up here with me since she ran off several weeks ago but she's impressed me into not feeling I need to do it any more! She's an amazing little girl is our Mitzi!

The Dog's Trust dogmobile is going to be at Asda in Gloucester on 2nd and 3rd December and we are going to take Mitzi there to show her off and say to visitors to the dogmobile that the staff at the Dog's Trust know how to set you up with a dog that is going to fit in with your life like they did with our little girl!

5 November 2010

Our little girl is now at the vet getting spayed and I'm sitting here typing this in tears! The phone call that tells us she is OK and to come and pick her up can't come soon enough!

Apparently our little girl "has no loyalty" to us, to quote Steven, as she just trotted off without looking back! I'm guessing that is because she was so used to being ignored before we re-homed her! Hopefully she will realise that we aren't going to ignore her as we love her with every milimetre of our being and we'll look after her until it's her time to go to Rainbow Bridge!

Our lil darlin' has got all of my heart and this is going to be the longest I've been without her since we got her! The house already feels empty!

SHE'S HOME! SHE'S HOME! OUR LITTLE SPACE CADET IS HOME!

We dropped her off at about 8.15am and it's been the longest 9 hours imaginable! I'm so glad she's back now though... it may sound silly but I'm crying huge tears of joy at having her back with us!

Our little girl is totally spaced out and not quite with it yet but the vet nurse said she'd be like for a couple of days until the drugs they gave her are out of her system.

Don't blame me for saying she's a space cadet and that she is spaced out... like with her unofficial name, Steven came up with it, not me! It fits her perfectly though, in a totally positive way! I'm so glad she is back home now! We've got to go back in 10 days to get the stitches out and she's got to have restricted exercise until then but I can stop counting the minutes now because SHE'S BACK HOME WHERE SHE BELONGS!

Can you tell I'm happy to have our little girl back?

4 November 2010

Steven went to work again today, like he does most Thursdays and our little girl spent most of the time asleep again! It's great that she finds my company so exciting! lol

Mitzi is getting spayed tomorrow and I know that I will leave her at the vet in tears of fear and when we get the call to pick her up I'll be crying tears of joy! Steven won't be able to legally drive fast enough when we go to pick her up!

I've got a video and 2 photos of our little girl from this morning... I know most of the photos and videos I put on this page are of Mitzi asleep but that is the only time she stays still long enough to get a photo/video of her! lol

The first picture shows our little girl fast asleep between the cushions... I hope she was comfortable because I certainly wasn't! lol

Hold on while I upload the video to You Tube...

1 November 2010

You know how I mentioned Mitzi's promotion yesterday yeah? Here are 2 photo's to show how much difference there is between when we first brought our little girl home and how well her fur has grown back in the second photo - the collar was tight on her which is why we got her a new one yesterday :-) The third photo shows our little girl on the back of the sofa fast asleep!

Steven was a spoilsport and didn't let me dress Mitzi up for Halloween last night! lol

Oh yeah, before I forget again, the lil darlin' decided to practise her digging on my leg earlier... she didn't hurt me, it was just so cute! It's the first time she's done that in the 111 days we've had her (yes, still counting) and it certainly got my attention! She's also very stable on just 2 legs as she got excited when I took her collar and lead off the nail to take the first 2 photos that are up there ^^ and she walked backwards (and on only her back legs) half-way down the hall to the living room... she's an amazing little pup and I'm glad she's ours! Thanks again to the people who didn't want her because of only having half a body of fur... they don't know what they rejected... the lil bundle of love and cuteness is ours now so tough luck and thank you! :-)

31 October 2010

Our little girl has just had a promotion... when we first got her from the Dogs Trust her collar was 1 hole from being the tightest. She's now got a new blue tartan collar and lead as her original collar was tight on her (on the loosest hole) and she had chewed half way through her lead! Her new collar is the tightest it will go and there is *a lot* of growing room in it!

We went over to Steven's family home after Steven got her the collar and lead (and a few other bits - can you say "Mitzi is spoilt rotten"? lol she is so worth it though) and both got on well again... Steven said about letting them off the leads next time we go over as they are used to each other now but it's my turn to be paranoid this time so we are going to leave them on their leads for the next couple of times *then* let them off to see what happens!

Our little girl somehow managed to get her lead off her collar - no-one knows how she managed it but for the few seconds that she was off the lead she was very good and came back to us when we called her and Lizzie didn't seem fussed by it at all! Hopefully that means that things will go well when we eventually let them off their leads as long as we make sure that Lizzie can't see Mitzi greeting Steven's mum as she is Lizzie's "property" but if we keep them on their leads until they have both calmed down then hopefully that will go well too!

28 October 2010

It can't be healthy for our little girl to keep her bladder and bowel full for 20ish hours but it's what she's done since last night! Steven went to work today and she didn't go outside the whole day as the ground was wet from the rain and she didn't go out at all last night because it was dark!

I also think she's an incredibly social (wrong word, but can't think of the right one) animal as not only has she not gone outside for so long but she hasn't had anything to eat or drink all day even though she had water and food down all day! As soon as Steven got in from work she kissed him like she hadn't seen him for a week then ate some of her food then went into the kitchen for a drink!

I think she realises that we aren't about to desert her as she hasn't needed Steven's t-shirt on a Thursday for several weeks now but her not going outside, not eating and not drinking while Steven's at work is making me worried now... maybe it's just a confidence thing like with his t-shirt on a Thursday was, so hopefully she will realise it's OK to eat, drink and go outside whenever she wants/needs to over the next few weeks but it's definitely something that I'm concerned about right now!

I got 2 video's of our little girl this morning before she went to sleep on my arm! lol

26 October 2010

Our little girl, Mitzi, is going to be spayed on 5 November... we've got to be there between 8am and 9am to drop her off, she isnt allowed to eat anything after 6pm the day before and she's not allowed to drink anything after 7am... the house is going to feel so empty without her here! She's been with us for 105 days and she's brought a lot of positive energy with her! I'll be counting the seconds until she is back with us for sure! I'm missing her already and she's only downstairs! lol

Also, Mitzi doesn't like going outside when it's dark or raining... she sort of goes to the door, sniffs the air outside, sees that it is dark/raining and turns around... the poor girl has got amazing bladder control!

Last thing! Mitzi needs a new collar and lead as her fur is getting thicker so her collar is starting to get a bit tight and it's on the loosest it will go. She also put a big hole in her lead yesterday while she was up here with me while we were waiting for the shopping to be delivered. I thought that she was just sucking her lead but her teeth went through it and Steven said that we'd better not take her for a walk until we've got a replacement, just in case it breaks and she runs off! I think he's being paranoid but we're not willing to risk it just in case!

Our little girl has got so much love going her way from both of us... she's an amazing girl though and deserves every second of it!

23 October 2010

It's been a couple of days since the last photo and I seem to have amazing timing because she only stayed in this position for a few seconds before jumping off the bed! lol

22 October 2010

I've just been playing with our little girl and discovered that she also knows "fetch" and "come"... not reliably but she does know both. We've got to work on "lay", "fetch" and "come" with her but as soon as she is reliable with those 3 then we'll be able to have lots of fun with her... even more than we do right now!

I've also just asked Steven if we can go back to Evesham Dog's Trust to say a huge thank you for a perfect match and to show our little girl off to them too!

21 October 2010

Mitzi has just amazed me time and again today!

We had someone coming between 8am and midday today to replace our cable digibox so I brought our little girl up here with me at about 7.30am and closed the bedroom door so that she didn't escape when the bloke came and she didn't make a sound even though she could smell Steven but couldn't see him (I reckon Steven is her "pack leader" and I'm second in command) and I took her out on her lead every 45 minutes (so that she could empty her bladder outside instead of in here) then came straight back up here then closed the door again and took her lead off. She didn't make a sound the whole time she was up here!

When the bloke had replaced the digibox and left I opened the bedroom door and Mitzi shot down the stairs and into the living room where she's been all afternoon... sat between Steven's legs until Steven put the heater on when she moved right in front of the heater facing Steven making pleading eyes at him! Steven took a photo of our little girl sat in front of the heater so here it is:

A letter from the Dogs Trust came with the post in a hand-written envelope which made me paranoid! lol The letter just said that the spaying certificate would run out soon. Mitzi is my first female dog so I don't know anything about spaying but Steven said that our little girl needs to go through her first season before that can happen. Here's the question: how often do dogs have seasons and would Mitzi already have had her first as she is almost 16 months old?

I've just found another command that our little girl knows too... she knows 'gently' as well as all the other words she knows! We had a take-away curry for tea and part of my food was chips (fries) which I offer a few of to our little girl (naughty me, but she has a really cute way of looking at you with pleading eyes when there is food around).

Up until this evening she had been trying to take my hand off with the chip in her excitement (she's never actually bitten me thankfully, but with her excitement at being offered a chip you wouldn't believe it). She had been swallowing the chips whole in her excitement... not chewing, it literally went from my hand to her stomach whole. I said "gently does it girly" and she immediately calmed down, gently took the chip, and chewed it then swallowed it so I tried it (saying "gently") with another chip and the same thing happened!

We've got an amazing little girl and we are so lucky that she was rejected (because of not being 'pretty' as she only had half a body of fur) before us.

15 October 2010

I've just taken a couple of video's and photo's of our little girl... she's an adorable little pup even if I say so myself! I'm so glad we rehomed her!

14 October 2010

Today is Steven's birthday and the poor boy had to go to work! I stayed downstairs with our little girl all day and she gave Steven a couple of wonderful pressies... she is taking notice of the "stay" command again as I had to go to the door a couple of times so I'm thinking that she realises that we won't stop loving her if she is naughty (like she was a while ago when she disobeyed the stay command and ran out of the open front door) so she is more willing to do as we ask now! Yay!

I've only got 1 video of our little girl today as she has been asleep on me all day so couldn't reach my phone to take photos and videos of her! lol

10 October 2010

I took our little girl for another walk today and within 15 minutes of getting back she was asleep on the sofa and Steven joined her soon after that! Too adorable for words! Wish I'd thought to take a photo of them but kept forgetting to take my phone (it's got a camera) down with me!

Yesterday we went to see Steven's family and our little girl fell asleep there too after her walk! Bless her little heart! :-)

Mitzi is a wonderful dog and I'm glad she is ours!

9 October 2010

We've just got back from introducing Mitzi (our Westie) to Lizzie (a Yorkie) and Steven's family. It went really well until Mitzi went to greet Steven's mum! Both dogs were on their leads the whole time as it was the first time they had met and Lizzie feels that Steven's mum is her "property" so she got a bit possessive when Mitzi went to say hi to Steven's mum but other than that both dogs were brilliant!

My knees are killing me now though and I'm totally wiped out but I'm getting used to that now! I've walked so little today compared to how much I used to walk 5 days a week that it's really starting to get to me just how little I can do outside now! Hopefully Mitzi's walks will slowly ease me back to health so that I can walk enough alone to take her for a walk with just me and her without having to cling on to Steven the whole time!

Such are the joys of being ill and a puppy/junior owner I suppose!

7 October 2010

Steven went in to work again today so me and Mitzi had a very lazy day today but I did manage to take 2 photo's and 2 video's of her! We both spent about 4 hours asleep! lol

I haven't got a clue what our little girl was licking on the arm of the sofa in this video! Maybe sweat from my hand or something? Ewwwww!

6 October 2010

I've got another video of our little girl trying to chew through her lead and she's just dribbled all over Steven for the second time today! lol

I've just tried to tempt Mitzi up here with a doggy biscuit (so that she doesn't run out of the open front door when the shopping is delivered) and she's just drooled all over Steven! lol It's the first time I've seen her drool but apparently she did it earlier on when Steven (the hubby) was eating lunch so she's obviously got her eye on human food! We'll have to watch that! lol

She's an adorable little girl and we are going to get her some doggy chocolates soon so that she doesn't try and eat human chocolate! She's only been with us for 3 months but it feels like she's been with us forever! Bless her little heart!

5 October 2010

It's my birthday today! Mitzi woke me up at 8am with a birthday kiss and let me take a couple of video's and photo's of her!

3 October 2010

I've been downstairs all afternoon with our little girl and took advantage of the situation by taking a photo and a few videos of Mitzi!

2 October 2010

I'm not happy with any of these photos or the video but it's been a while since I last posted any so they will have to do!

26 September 2010

Steven went out to help someone from the steam railway again this morning (he's making good use of his membership there! lol) and just as Mitzi and I got comfortable and were just dozing off this afternoon he came home and got covered in kisses by our little girl as soon as the door closed! Bless her little heart!

25 September 2010

Steven was out for the whole day today (he went to Plymouth on a Steam Train with some people from the local steam railway) so it was just me and our little girl from 7am to 9pm and she was an amazing little girl the whole day! It's taken a few months but I think she knows now that neither of us are going to desert her now... she means the world to both of us! I've got a couple of photos of her - I'm not happy with the first one as it's really blurry and you can't see much, but it is basically Mitzi fast asleep, bless her little heart! I'm a lot happier with the second one though... it shows Mitzi's "it's not my fault! Honest!" face that melts my heart every time I see it!

24 September 2010

Our little girl is so fickle! lol She came up to see me at 5.15am and woke me up, we snuggled for about 20 minutes before my bladder decided not to let me go back to sleep so I went downstairs (our bathroom is downstairs) and Mitzi went down 1 step and stayed there, but when I came out of the bathroom she wasn't there any more so I went into the living room and she was on the sofa again... I'm thinking that she hadn't forgiven me for cutting our snuggling session short... sorry Mitzi!

23 September 2010

Our little girl seems to think that she owns the sofa as she spreads out across it as soon as someone gets up! lol

22 September 2010

I've been hoping to get a video of our little girl going "arroo" as it's so cute and this morning seemed to be the perfect opportunity to get it as she was arrooing in reply to everything Steven said to her but by the time I'd got my Blackberry out and set up she'd stopped doing it! :-(

18 September 2010

I was talking to someone overnight/this morning on the WestiesII mailing list and we were talking about how both of our rescue pups want to be in contact with us more often than not so I sneaked downstairs this morning and took a photo of our little girl with her bum against Steven's thigh and curled up beneth the duvet cover! Too adorable!

The photo is a bit blurred for my liking but I had to take the picture quickly before Mitzi woke up and moved!

15 September 2010

Steven went in to work today instead of tomorrow as he had an all day meeting to go to so I've been downstairs with our little girl like I am on a Thursday and she's spent most of the day asleep!

When she wasn't asleep she was between the back of the sofa and sofa cushion, doing her best to push me off the sofa! Here's my proof! lol

11 September 2010

Our little Mitzi has done me really proud today... yes, I know I keep saying it but you wait till you read this and you'll see why I'm so proud of her!

We've just got back from seeing my mum and Mitzi was really well behaved - it was the first time she'd traveled that far (80 miles total which took just over 2 hours total - 40 miles each way which takes about an hour each way) and she'd never met my mum or Jonathan (my brother) before but she behaved so well that I think they can both see what Mitzi has done for me since we've had her!

We were out and about for 8 hours which is the most she's been out of the house since we brought her home with us and she was amazing the whole time!

Apparently she's already asleep downstairs and I won't be far behind her! lol

9 September 2010

I've got a photo and a couple of videos today... hold on while I resize the photo and upload the videos!

Our little girl is a real TV addict as she's been watching it with me all day and she was incredibly cute as we were watching an out-takes programme and Gordon the Gofer (a puppet from a children's TV programme that was called Going Live back in the 80s) came onto the TV and squeaked so our little girl jumped off the sofa and tried to look around the back of the TV for the sound! So so sweet!

This is our little girl first thing this morning pretty much as soon as Steven left for work - she's laying on one of his t-shirts like she does for an hour or so when he first deserts her (sorry Steven! lol)

These 2 videos were also taken this morning... couldn't resist taking these of her! She's a little cutie!

Oooh! Before I forget again like I did yesterday, Mitzi now has a new (unofficial) name, thanks to Steven... you ready for this? Mitzi T Dogington the third - I reckon it suits her really well! lol

6 September 2010

I know I've said it on here before, but it's worth saying again... considering our little girl isn't even 18 months old yet, she's (usually) got great control over her bowel! Steven has just bathed her while I was taking my pills and as soon as she was out and dried she went out for a poo which she had obviously been holding in while she was up here with me before her bath and also while she was in the bath!

We've rehomed a wonderful little girl! She's hopefully eating her tea now as she didn't even smell her breakfast this morning so I reckon she's hungry by now!

4 September 2010

Our little girl decided to wee on the duvet last night and again during the night... it's not a big deal - we still love her but the duvet cover is in for the wash now so I hope our little Mitzi holds it in tonight!

It's been a while since the last photo and video so I've got 1 of each today!

1 September 2010

We've just got back from the vet and our little girl wanted to meet a huge dog while we waited to be called in... Mitzi is a small puppy who comes about a quarter of the way up my shin and the dog she wanted to meet was at least waist height! lol

She also has great control of her bladder and bowel as she didn't do anything in the car but as soon as she got out and onto the ground she let it all out in a big way! lol

Our little girl had her vaccine booster today and we've got to wait 10 days before taking her on her first walk so that the booster has time to get into her system and she is fully protected so we are going to take her with us to see my mum and Jonathan on 10th September so that they can both meet her!

We finally got her Dogs Trust folder back today too! lol

We just need to remember to ask about getting her spayed now! We also need to bath her every couple of weeks so that we control her skin/fur problems instead of the problems controlling us! You watch us forget now! lol

31 August 2010

Just a quickie tonight - I said, on here, a few days ago that we needed to ask the vet about why our little girl wasn't eating all her food but we don't need to any more as it appears that Mitzi doesn't like being left alone to eat but Steven has just put her food bowl down in the living room with him and she ate it all without any encouragement!

Our little girl wants to be with one of us all the time and is willing to go without food to be in our company! Now that we know that, we'll feed her in the living room or stay in the kitchen with her until she's finished her food!

She's such a loveable sweetheart!

We've also got to remember to ask the vet tomorrow about how long we have to wait between getting the boosters (she's having that done tomorrow) and going for her first walk... we are both hoping that the vet will say we can take her for a walk straight away but it's been almost 2 decades since Whiskey was vaccinated and it's been about 15 years since Steven's family had a dog that needed to be vaccinated so we'll ask the vet tomorrow. The second thing we've got to ask about is getting our little girl spayed as there are already so many unwanted puppies and dogs around and we don't want to add to it!

30 August 2010

It's Bank Holiday Monday today so Steven didn't have to work today which I think confused our little girl because she's been up here with me all day like she usually does on a Monday - I don't think it clicked that Steven was home today!

I've got another couple of photo's and a video of our little girl scratching herself and every time I think about it I start itching too! lol

29 August 2010

How come our little girl is tired so often during the day when she sleeps more than me every night? I'm awake for 12 hours and asleep for the other 12 hours and Mitzi goes to sleep before me and wakes up after me then sleeps most of the day too! I'm guessing it is because she is still a puppy but it's good that she finds my company so stimulating! Yep, the previous sentence was pure sarcasm! lol

I've spent most of today with our little girl as Steven went to the steam railway then to see his family. I've got 2 photo's and a video to share with you all from today... I'm not happy with the photo's but I don't know enough about paint shop pro photo X2 to put them right!

I've just taken another couple of photo's of our little girl this evening too!

28 August 2010

Another first for our little girl this morning... apparently Steven had heard her do it a few times but this morning was the first time I'd heard our little girl go "aroooo!" and it was so cute! She looked up at Steven while he was in the kitchen and she bent her little head down to her chest and lifted her head up as she aroooed! I really must get a video of it to put here!

Also, Mitzi pooed in the kitchen again last night so I asked about it on the WestieII list about it and I had a reply this morning saying that our little girl probably didn't like getting wet in the rain as it's only happened twice and it was raining both times she did it so maybe we should get an umbrella for our little girl or something! :-)

We are also going to try cutting Mitzi's food down as she isn't eating all of it and we don't want to pressure her to eat but we'll see what the vet says on Wednesday when she gets her booster vaccination! :-)

Our little girl in her favourite position lol

26 August 2010

I've got 4 photo's and 2 video's to share with you today... the photo's are really blurred and I'm still debating about putting them here because they are so bad but they show our little girl so I will - or shall I?

Steven went to work today and Mitzi was a real PITA... I put my trust in her being up here alone because she is great when I'm up here but she destroyed a couple of (empty thankfully) Tracker bar boxes which I only found out about when I came up here to check my email and she also pooed in the kitchen which she hasn't done since we got her so I'm wondering if she decided to try my patience today or something! I still love her though and she only plays up when Steven is at work!

I'm considering getting a stair gate which I will only close when Steven isn't here so that she can't get into the bedroom when I'm not here or maybe she's bored or something? Maybe we need to get a toy for her that needs interaction or something so that I can play with her when Steven isn't here and hide it other than when Steven goes to work so that she doesn't get bored of it?

Hopefully her walks will tire her out so that she isn't so destructive next week?!

Anyway, onto the photo's and video's!

This is our little girl getting comfortable first thing this morning!

Here is our little girl wondering how she can cause mischief today!

23 August 2010

I've got another video of our little girl to upload to You Tube today - hold on!

She's ripping apart her squeeky doughnut... I'm thinking that we shouldn't get her any more fabric toys! lol

Also, she's now officially a perfect puppy (in my eyes at least) - the 2 minor things that stopped my labelling her as a perfect puppy soon after we brought her home (her lack of fur and not always taking her pills) aren't there any more - she now has a full body of fur and she doesn't need to take her pills any more so she's now perfect to me! Only 9 days to go and we can take her for her first walk! Can't wait!

22 August 2010

Up at the top is a javascript showing how long ago our little girl was born and how long ago we rehomed her. I've been tearing my hair out for days trying to get them to work and failing dismally so I asked on alt.comp.lang.javascript last night and Andy was wonderful and sorted it out for me this morning... thank you so so much, Andy!

I don't know how he did it, but Steven took both of these photos today - he somehow managed to take a photo of himself with our little girl and the other photo shows our little girl after she buried a carrot... the eyes are so innocent but the soil against her white fur tells a different story! lol

20 August 2010

Steven went to work today instead of yesterday as he had a meeting this morning so I took a few photo's and a video of our little girl to make up for not putting any up for a few days! She spent 10 hours with me downstairs and she's come up to see me again! She'll get sick of me soon, I bet! lol

18 August 2010

Lady Care from GOF Pet Lovers sent me this yesterday and gave me permission to put it here without a link back to her (she sent it overnight but I've only just seen her email)... thank you Lady Care!

We are taking our little girl to the vet again at 6pm today and we're going to ask about coming off her pills and stopping the shampooing as she's done so well since we've had her! Keep her in your thoughts! :-)

We've just got back from the vet again and I just had to publicly praise our little girl again! We thought that we were just going to go for a check up on how her skin is healing, how her fur is growing back and to ask about how long it would be before we could start the vaccinations but it seems the vet can read minds as she answered all those questions and gave our little girl her first 2 jabs today!

We've got to stop both pills as of now and only shampoo her if she seems to be itchy or sore or whatever again! We've got another appointment for her in 2 weeks to have the boosters to the vaccines she had today then we can take her for her very first walk since being in her forever home with us!

We've just got to remember to ask for her Dogs Trust paperwork back and ask about getting her spayed/neutered/fixed (I'm never sure which word is for which gender) then she's good to go!

What a brilliant day!

17 August 2010

There are going to be 2 things that I want to remember to say today... you watch me forget one of them now! lol

This is another photo that I've wanted since we bought our little girl home! The little cutie pokes her tongue out ever so slightly when she is asleep sometimes but I haven't been able to get a photo of it up to now and Steven beat me to it again! He sent this photo to me with the subject line of "Guard Dog" and apparently they were both guarding the sofa earlier (aka they were both asleep lol) She is 1 year, 1 month, 2 weeks and 3 days today.

This was the second thing that I wanted to put on here today... it's not specifically about our little Mitzi and she was hiding her back end (because of not having fur there - have a look at the first few pictures on this page to see what I mean) not an accident... but that day we first set eyes on each other is described so well and it's when Mitzi rescued me that I just had to share it with you!

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor
peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident
I had in the back of my cage.
I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy
and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past.
I only have the future to look forward to
and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.
I shoved my shoulder and side of my head
up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck;
she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw
to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright
that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could
to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved.
At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

16 August 2010

Our little girl was such a poser this morning while I was watching The Bill on TV! Steven took a few photo's of her so that you can see what I mean!

Here is our little girl sticking her tongue out at the camera... I've wanted a photo like this for ages and now I've got it! I may be biased here but I think this is a fiercley cute photo!

15 August 2010

Our little girl appears to be even more amazing than even I had given her credit for! I know I say it on the groups I'm with a lot, but considering Mitzi isn't even 18 months yet (she's 1 year, 1 month, 2 weeks and 1 day... yep, still counting) she has amazing bladder and bowel control!

We've just shampooed our little girl and as soon as we got her out of the bath and dried she went straight outside for a poo which in itself is brilliant, she also has wonderful bladder control as Steven said the same thing happened last time he shampooed her! We haven't trained her to do that so, I'm guessing, Evesham Dogs Trust deserve the credit for training her to hold it in until she's out of the bath! To quote Steven, Mitzi "has got the arse of an Alsation!" going by what she's been producing since we've had her! lol

Steven went to see his family this afternoon so I stayed downstairs with our little girl and took a couple of photos of her... hold on while I resize them! They are terrible photos, but it's been a few days since the last one so they will have to do!

Our little girl curled up on my chest and fell asleep after I took these 2 photos then changed position so that most of her weight was on my right arm and she fell deeply asleep so there was no chance of moving my arm until Steven came home when she suddenly woke up and played the innocent act... she's a little cutie but my arm was tingling and slowly coming back to life for a good 5 to 10 minutes before we got her into the bath! lol

She's a little sweetheart and I'm glad she is ours!

11 August 2010

It should be illegal, it really should, to own such a cute, photogenic, adorable, almost perfect puppy as Mitzi!

Steven has just sent me this photo of our little girl and those loveably innocent eyes get me every time!

10 August 2010

I know I'm being stupid and paranoid but I've just had a nightmare about our little girl! In it, we took Mitzi for her first walk after she got her vaccinations again but she pulled so hard that the lead came off my wrist and out of my hand, Mitzi then ran off and got attacked by a bigger dog who didn't think twice about picking Mitzi up in it's mouth, shaking her violently until she stopped struggling then threw her into a big water thing to drown!

It's so unlikely to happen as our little girl doesn't pull on the lead and even if she did, it wouldn't be enough to get the lead off my wrist and out of my hand and even if she *did* manage to get the lead off me there isn't any water for literally miles and we wouldn't take our little girl there as there is nothing there other than derelict shops!

Told you it was stupid and paranoia!

8 August 2010

Our little girl surprised me again this morning... she knows "drop" too! We seem to have re-homed a very intelligent little girl and the only reward she wants is praise! She is 1 year 1 month 1 week and 1 day today so she is still a little puppy and she amazes me at least 2 or 3 times a week - she's our little girl and I'm so glad we have her!

7 August 2010

Our little girl definitely feels at home now and she seemingly favours the back of the sofa for comfort even though we've put the cushion out of her bed on the sofa which must be more comfortable than a thin bit of fabric-covered wood but Mitzi doesn't seem to think so!

Apparently she went to sleep last night with her bum against Steven's thigh and the rest of her little body on her cushion so at least she is sleeping in comfort even if she chooses otherwise during the day!

We appear to have re-homed an amazing puppy and I'm not just saying that because she is ours either! Our little girl was just sat on the sofa with the front door wide open and she didn't move a muscle until she heard the front door close then she moved over onto her cushion and layed down! She is 1 year, 1 month and 1 week so she is still a puppy but I've never known a dog to be so obedient even when on the lead! I want to say a huge thank you to those people who rejected her just because she didn't have a full body of fur - she's an amazing little girl and she's ours now! Thank you to everyone at Evesham Dogs Trust for suggesting her to us - she's the perfect match to us and we don't know what we would do without her now even though it hasn't even been a month since we first set eyes on her!

Mitzi is also an amazingly intelligent dog too - the light we've got in the living room is on a dimmer switch and I've just turned the light off and our little girl looked up at the light as the room got darker... she's definitely a one-of-a-kind pup and we are lucky to be owned by her!

6 August 2010

This evening is going to really test my confidence in our little girl and her ability to understand and do the "stay" instruction thing as we are having a take-away being delivered and I offered to keep our little girl up here with me so that she doesn't try and sneak out of the open door but Steven said she would be OK down there with him so I hope he's right!

No photos of Mitzi today... she's spent pretty much the whole day with Steven like she does on a Friday to be sure he's not going to leave her like he does on a Thursday!

Our little girl did it! She's done me proud she has! The curry has just been delivered and she didn't run off! Our little girl is amazing!

5 August 2010

Steven went to work for the day again today and yet again, our little girl did me proud! Up until today Mitzi has been laid on one of Steven's t-shirts on a Thursday so that she had his smell/scent around whenever she wanted it... except today! I thought Steven had forgotten to leave one of his t-shirts for her and Mitzi didn't seem bothered at not having access to his smell/scent and she's been amazingly well behaved for me - I haven't got a clue where her Kong is, she didn't have Steven's scent and she only barked a couple of times in the 11 hours that Steven wasn't here!

Mitzi spent most of the day on the sofa with me watching TV except when she was tired (she became "my scarf" then because she went to the back of the sofa with 2 of her legs over each shoulder! lol). This photo shows our little girl too tired to move so I took advantage of the situation and took this photo of her.

She suddenly woke up about 15 minutes before Steven walked in the door so I put her lead on and her little ears pricked up, her head turned to the side and her tail started wagging when she heard his car go down the road (you have to turn around at the bottom of the road) and she seemed to recognise the sound of his car so as soon as he came in and closed the door I let her off her lead and she shot off to greet Steven then came up here to see me while I booted up the laptop - bless her little cotton socks! You'd think that she would have been sick of me after 11 hours of only my company but she wasn't!

She is definitely my favourite (and youngest - she's 1 year, 1 month and 5 days old) pet that is alive today! We've only had her for 3.5 weeks but she's totally taken over my heart already!

3 August 2010

I'm so proud of our little girl... her fur has grown back so much that you can't see where the join is unless you look closely at this photo and compare it to earlier photos!

1 August 2010

We appear to have re-homed a parrot not a dog! lol

Mitzi amazed me for 3 reasons yesterday... you can read why on my blogg I'm so glad we have her, she's an amazing dog and I haven't stopped smiling since we got her!

We've got to put something on her fur today as it's the first of the month, Steven is going to read the bottle just before we do it so I'll try and remember to update this page as soon as it's done so that I don't forget! :-) It's flea stuff... Steven has just done it and our little girl doesn't seem at all bothered by it!

Something else I've just remembered about last night and Mitzi... there were some really loud fireworks last night and apparently our little girl just looked up when they started then went back to sleep! lol She wasn't bothered by it at all!

Apparently she's chasing a cherry tomato round the floor downstairs at the moment bless her! She never fails to bring a smile to my face!

29 July 2010

Our little girl has been a pain in the arse this afternoon but I still love her! She hasn't curled up with Steven's t-shirt at all today so I think she is used to him being at work on a Thursday and knows that he comes back in the afternoons so she's just been a troublesome puppy today! She's been wonderful for the last 2 weeks though so I think I can forgive her... she's only been a PITA when she's had her lead on but she's been wonderful the rest of the time so I think she associates the lead with an open front door... if she does, she's got it right because that's the only time we put her lead on (so that she doesn't run off through the open door) as she's not allowed out for walks until she's had her puppy vacinations again (the anti-biotics have stopped the ones she had from working so she's got to have them again).

As you can see from this photo, Mitzi's fur is all back now but it's still very thin... it just needs to thicken up now!

27 July 2010

I was wrong about how long it would take Mitzi's fur to grow back - apparently it's 6 *weeks* not 6 months! Oops!

Todays photo's are a bit blurred because our little girl wouldn't stay still! We've got to remember to ask the vet (next time we go) about why Mitzi leaves a small amount of food until I'm standing over her. I personally think she stops eating when she is full and only finishes her food off when I'm standing over her to please me but she gets bloated and uncomfortable then!

I've also been able to email the video to myself (the one I took on 18th July 2010 but couldn't email to myself) so hold on while I upload it to YouTube!

I've just taken this photo of our little girl fast asleep... too cute! It's a full body photo so you really can see how well her fur is growing back!

22 July 2010

Steven has only just sent me these photos so I don't know when he took them, but I think they were taken soon after we re-homed Mitzi as you can see her purple skin on one of the photos!

Our little girl has amazed me yet again! I was sat here eating my lunch (a box of chocolate chip Trackers) and Mitzi just sat there... no begging, no pawing me, no trying to eat out of my hand - she just sat there! That is amazing for 2 reasons... the first is that most dogs want chocolate and will do anything for it - Mitzi didn't and the second is that she is only a puppy so she has amazing self control! Way to go Mitzi!

I've just taken a photo of Mitzi 5 minutes after being bathed then dried... it's a terrible photo but it shows our little girl after being washed and dried then waiting for her food. It's really blurred but it will have to do until I get a better one :-)

As you can see from the photo, after only a couple of weeks her fur on her back and legs is growing really well and I don't think anyone who had seen her a month ago would believe she is the same dog, but she is... honestly! Her fur is still thin but that will grow back soon - considering we were originally told it would take 6 months to a year to grow back, our little girl is doing amazingly well!

20 July 2010

I didn't write anything here yesterday! Woops! Today, however, there is more brilliant news that I never thought I'd read, let alone write!

We've just got back from the vet and other than a bit of wriggling in Steven's arms in the waiting room (there was another dog there that she wanted to say hello to), our little Mitzi was amazing! She wasn't at all bothered by the vet smells being different to home smells and wasn't fussed about being handled at all... her little tail was wagging like you wouldn't believe all the way through it! She's an amazing puppy and both Steven and I agreed we wouldn't know what to do without her in our lives any more!

She's only 1 year 1 month but she is so much more mature than that! The only things that stop me from labelling her as a "perfect puppy" are that she picks out her pills and doesn't eat everything until I'm standing over her (what puppy doesn't lol) and her fur not being fully grown back yet... very picky and minor but they are seriously the only 2 things that aren't perfect yet but they will be soon, as long as Mitzi keeps going the way she has been going for the last week!

The people who passed her by because of only having half a body of fur don't know what they rejected... Mitzi is ours now and we are lucky to have her!

Mitzi is ours and she will be until it's her time to go to Rainbow Bridge! She's our little baby and for anyone who doesn't like that then they will be kissed into submission by our little girl! :-)

Mitzi is also far more intelligent than anyone had given her credit for! Not only is she amazingly well behaved for a puppy, she behaved really well at the vet (her tail was wagging the whole time we were there and she didn't seem nervous or anything like that) but she is a lot more intelligent than anyone had given her credit for as she's just made sure I took my pills then she finished off her tea and pill too!

For the last week I've had to literally stand over her until she finished her tea and took her pill so this is a bit of role reversal or something! lol We both look after each other in the pill-taking stakes and I'm lucky to have her!

18 July 2010

I'm so proud of our little girl... when we re-homed her she only had half a body of fur and her skin was purple. We were told that it would be 6 months to a year before her fur grew back but she is already starting to get fur on her back legs and back and this is only day 5! OK, so it's not very long or thick yet but it's definitely there! Mitzi is a wonderful puppy and I'm hoping that the quick fur re-growth means she is happy with us! I'll try and get a photo to show you what I mean today but no promises!

OK, so I've got 2 photos of the back of her and a 30 second video that I'm trying (and failing) to get off my Blackberry! These photos were taken after 5 days of love from me and 'im and if this is anything to go by she will have all her fur back to the way it should be by the end of August... you watch, it won't happen now! lol

This is her "worst" side and it is already looking better than when she came home with us! It's her right hand side, showing her side and bum.

This, however, is why I was so excited this morning! I don't know about you but I can't tell where the new fur starts! In reality though, if I'd taken the same photo 5 days ago all you would have seen would have been purple skin! Our little girl is an amazing puppy!

17 July 2010

Our little girl is being spoilt rotten! lol When Steven left last night the poor girl was whining like crazy and kept going to the door expecting him to come home! Bless her little cotton socks! I called her back to the sofa with me and she curled up on Steven's t-shirt which calmed her down a bit and we watched TV together for about 45 minutes then I went out and filled her Kong for her, gave it to her and she seemed to be happy then!

Mitzi and Steven slept together last night (like every night) and I sneaked down the stairs and got a photo of them both this morning! hahaha

We've just got back from the pet shop where Steven bought her a couple of bags of treats, a couple of filled bones and a toy sheep which she is having great fun with now! Scratch that, the poor girl is worn out again! I've just taken a video of her with her new toy... if you listen carefully you will be able to hear me praising our little girl at the end so you know what I sound like now!

I still can't believe that she is only a year old! She's so mature for her age that she really doesn't act like a puppy! She's a little sweetheart bless her and I'm really looking forward to spending the next 10 to 15 years with her!

This is our little girl with her 2nd toy that Steven got for her this morning... Mitzi doesn't seem bothered with her Kong now that she has her squeaky sheep! lol

16 July 2010

Mitzi has stayed with Steven all day so far - I think she wants to make sure he doesn't leave her all day like he did yesterday... she really missed him and spent most of the day curled up on his t-shirt! She doesn't realise that he's going out for a few hours this evening so I hope she'll be OK when he goes! I'll stay downstairs with her until Steven gets home tonight and she'll have his t-shirt and her Kong so hopefully she will be OK with that!

15 July 2010

Mitzi is even more amazing now... she's just over a year old according to some paperwork we read this morning! The paperwork said she was born on 30th June 2009 so she is about a year and 2 weeks! She is amazingly well behaved for a puppy... she's house-trained, friendly, has only barked twice since she's been with us, eats all her food and seems to be very intelligent as she has picked out half of her pink pill yesterday morning and this morning and has only eaten it when Steven has broken up a treat - she swallows it then without any problems! lol

She's currently doing her best to push me off the sofa bless her! When Steven went to get his leg bandages changed yesterday she whimpered a little bit as soon as he left until we went upstairs to get her Kong thing then she was fine and it's been the same today! Steven left for work 10 minutes ago and I gave her the Kong as soon as the door closed and she hasn't made a sound! Steven has left one of his t-shirts here so that she's got his smell if she wants it while he is at work today. She's an amazing little dog and I'm glad we've given her a forever home! I don't know what we would do without her now even though it's only been 3 days!

I'll try and take more photo's and video's of her today but I'm not promising anything! :-)

Just the one photo today as we've been snuggling with each other all day, but I managed to get a cute one of Mitzi's face on my thigh... that is what the black thing is - my skirt! :-)

Our darling dog is also my own personal alarm clock... she seems to know what time I've set the alarm for and comes up an hour before with a good morning kiss! She keeps licking me until I'm awake and have my glasses on then she sits on my feet until I turn the alarm off then we come downstairs together - a wonderfully gentle but persuasive way to start every day!

14 July 2010

I've just (14 July 2010) uploaded a couple of video's to YouTube but I can't work out how to get the URL to the video's so that I can put them here for you all to see! :-( ...UPDATE! The videos are now uploaded to YouTube so I hope I paste the html in the right place!

There was a video that lasted for a grand total of 2 seconds here but apparently it didn't show up for some reason so I've taken it down!

13 July 2010

Mitzi came home with us today (13 July 2010) and, after only 6 hours, it already feels like she has been with us forever! She's an adorable little dog and I'm looking forward to the next decade with her!

She's got to take an anti-flea pill, an anti-biotic pill and another one that I've already forgotten! She also has to be shampoo'd every other day - she doesn't mind any of it though and we are going to be giving her the first bath here when Steven has finished work in an hour or so!

She's been asleep for about 15 minutes and she's chasing something because her little legs are running right now! You should see it, it is so cute!

9 July 2010

Say hello to Mitzi! Isn't she just the cutest dog you've ever seen? She's 3 years old and has to have an anti-flea pill and anti-biotic every day... we thought she would have to have a twice weekly shampooing but she doesn't have to after all! This photo was taken on 9 July 2010 and we've just got to hope the vet faxes a form over to the Dogs Trust on Monday so that we can bring her home on Tuesday - I can't wait!
